Location Based Incentives
Some tax credits and other incentives apply to businesses in certain geographic areas. These areas are called Empowerment Zones, Renewal Communities, Enterprise Zones, Empire Zones, Opportunity Zones, and various other names. The Empowerment Zone Tax Credit and the Renewal Community Tax Credit are federal tax credits that apply to employers that have existing employees that both work and live in one of these zones. State enterprise zone programs are often focused on new job creation or capital investment. The specifics of these programs vary widely between the states.
